‘Friendship Night’ held to foster camaraderie among teachers, students, parents

Thursday, December 1, 2011

The faculty, staff, parents and students of the Malayan High School of Science (MHSS) gathered last September 23 at the school lobby for a night of camaraderie and friendship.

The event was organized by MHSS Parents’ Council Inc., an organization of parents of MHSS students, “to foster friendship, camaraderie and harmonious working relationship between and among all stakeholders,” said principal Dr. Efren B. Mateo.

The newly elected officers of the Parents’ Council were inducted by MHSS president Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, who graced the gathering dubbed as “Friendship Night.”

MHSS teachers and staff were also formally introduced to the parents.

Fun games, raffles and “a lot of singing and salo-salo (get together)” dominated the night. The MHSS employees, student leaders and members of the Parents’ Council also presented special production numbers.

Ferdinand Geronimo of the MHSS’ Registrar’s Office said more parents showed up and participated in this year’s gathering.

This was the third “Friendship Night” organized by the Parents’ Council. The first gathering of faculty, parents and students happened during school year 2009-2010. According to Dr. Mateo, the gathering is usually held two or three months after the school opening.

When asked about the importance of such gathering, Dr. Mateo said: “If there is a harmonious relationship among parents, teachers, staff and administration, the ultimate beneficiaries are the students. Parents are free to discuss with teachers the academic and other problems of their children. Parents also become more supportive in the implementation of the school policies.”
