MHSS Students Shines in Athletics

Three students from Malayan High School of Science showed their prowess in different athletic events.

Karl Romero, the MHSS inveterate swimmer, broke his own existing NCAA record of 27.95 s to a new record of 27.49 s in 50-m butterfly at the 86th NCAA Swimming Championship held at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Malate, Manila on August 28-31, 2010, thus, winning him gold for the said event. In the same swimming competition, Romero won 2 nd place in 50-m freestyle, 4th place in 50-m breaststroke, 5th place in 50-m backstroke and 6th place in 100-m freestyle.

Earlier, Romero won gold in swimming in the Little Milo Olympics held at Marikina Sports Complex on August 7-8, 2010. Thus, Romero will represent the National Capital Region in the National Finals of the 2010 MILO Little Olympics on October 14-17, 2010 at Pelaez Sports Complex, Cagayan de Oro City. He will compete in the individual events and relay.

Pauline Cipriano, a second year student won gold in taekwondo in a tournament sponsored by Philippine Taekwondo Association held on August 29, 2010 at Don Bosco, Mandaluyong City. Cipriano was also a bronze medalist in the Little Milo Olympics held at Marikina Sports Complex on August 6-8, 2010.

Emilia Consuelo Duque, a fourth year lass from MHSS, brought home a bronze medal in the Southeast Asian Soft Tennis Open and Juniors Tournament at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia on September 17-19, 2010. The Philippine team composed of students from San Sebastian College-Recolletos, San Beda College and University of Perpetual Help System, and of course, MHSS dominated the team standings in the different events. Aside from the host country, Malaysia, the event was participated in by Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
