Fourth Place For MHSS Students In Chematics Quiz

Saturday, January 23, 2010

On January 23, 2010, three students represented MHSS in the First Chematics Quiz organized by the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers – Junior Chapter Luzon. The quiz which covers high school subjects such as Geometry, Algebra, Statistics, Physics and Chemistry, was hosted by the University of the Philippines, Diliman Campus.

Twelve schools registered for the competition, including Quezon City Science High School, St. Jude, Chiang Kai Shek, UST, Grace Christian School, among others. The contest format is a team competition consisting of three rounds: easy, average, and difficult. Fifteen questions from each round were asked. It was worthy to note that during the difficult round, a question on finding the derivative of a function was asked. Only two teams gave the correct answer: MHSS and Quezon City Science HS.

After the last question was asked, results showed a tie for third place between MHSS and Chiang Kai Shek. A clincher question on finding the roots of a polynomial equation was asked. Team Malayan got it right but was beaten in a split of a second in signifying their answer. Thus, MHSS students settled for the fourth place. The team from Quezon City Science High School captured first place while the students from St. Jude came in second place.

MHSS was represented by Lorelisa Ethel Luya and Josiah Juan Alfonso Joson – both third year students and Piere Justin Luya, a fourth year student. Mr. Dhonny Bacuyag, a Physics teacher, was their coach and chaperon.

Congratulations to Team MHSS.
