MHSS student wins bronze in international mathematics competition

Malayan High School of Science (MHSS) Grade 9 student Audrey Gabrielle Tan brought home another award, a bronze medal, after participating in the 12th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Singapore from July 29 to August 1.

Tan was among the Filipino students who brought pride to the country. The Philippine team edged out contestants from 12 other countries after bagging 208 medals and 120 merit awards.

Tan won a bronze medal and a silver medal in the elimination round and contest proper, respectively, of the 2015 leg of IMC in Singapore; she also copped a bronze medal in the same competition in 2014. Also in 2014, Tan won a silver medal in the individual category, and bronze and silver medals in the team category of the Wizards at Mathematics International Competition (WIZMIC) in India. For those feats, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) conferred the Youth Excellence in Science award to Tan in 2015.

Tan was also a silver medalist in the Challenge for Future Mathematicians contest held in Manila in 2015, and was a regular participant of the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge (MMC) wherein Tan placed 2nd in the individual category of the division and sectoral levels in 2015; this year, MHSS students, including Tan, placed 2nd in the regional and sectoral levels.

Tan was also one of the six MHSS students who obtained a perfect score in the 900-item Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) in 2015.

Tan bagged a bronze medal during the recently held 12th International Mathematics Competition in Singapore.
