MHSS adds Microsoft subjects to senior high school curriculum

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

As a clear manifestation of MHSS’ readiness to fully implement its Senior High School Program, students will learn intermediate and advanced level of Microsoft Office’s skills in addition to subjects offered under the STEM strand.

Malayan High School of Science (MHSS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mapúa Institute of Technology, further advances its academic programs as it adds Microsoft subjects under its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand.

Come June 2016, the school will be offering its Senior High School (SHS) program through three strands of the Academic Track. Aside from the STEM, it will also offer Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS).

Continuously taking the path to educational excellence, MHSS will then pursue the use of Microsoft Office Productivity Tools (MOPT). The use of these tools—such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, and Outlook—will further equip the students for the tertiary level as it aims to develop their technical skills.

Mapúa Chief Information Officer Brian Co noted that MHSS intends to familiarize its students with all the Microsoft Office’s features and teach them intermediate to advanced level of skills, making it in line with its bid for world-class, forward-thinking education.

This is a manifestation of MHSS’ readiness for the full implementation of the SHS program. The additional subject under STEM is Internet of Things to be offered to Grade 12 students next school year, while its other specialized subjects are Pre-Calculus, Basic Calculus, General Biology, General Physics, General Chemistry, and Research Project.

Under the ABM strand, the specialized subjects are Applied Economics, Business Ethics and Social Responsibility, Fundamentals of Accountancy, Business and Management, Business Math, Business Finance, Organization and Management, Principles of Marketing, Database Programming, and Business Enterprise Simulation.

Meanwhile, HUMSS will offer Creative Writing/Malikhaing Pagsulat; Introduction to World Religions and Belief Systems; Creative Nonfiction; Trends, Networks, and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century Culture; Philippine Politics and Governance; Community Engagement, Solidarity, and Citizenship; Disciplines and Ideas in the Social Sciences; Disciplines and Ideas in the Applied Social Sciences, Database Programming, and Creative Portfolio.
