MHSS Celebrates Fourth Founding Anniversary

Saturday, January 16, 2010

On January 16, 2006, Philippine Ambassador to China and Japan Alfonso T. Yuchengco lead the inauguration of Malayan High School of Science at the school campus at Pandacan, Manila. MHSS formally opened in June 2006 with 112 students, 6 teachers and 9 support staff. After four years, the school had grown with 320 students, 24 teachers and 16 support staff.

On January 13, 2010, the whole academic community commemorated the Fourth Founding Anniversary of the school with the theme, “Exploring Life, Improving Lives.” It was a simple yet very meaningful celebration. The first part started with a thanksgiving mass with Fr. Pio Aclon as the officiating priest. Wishes for the school by the different classes were offered during the mass. During the second part of the celebration, selected students read the wishes on behalf of their class sections. The President, Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea also expressed his wish: “I wish all your wishes will come true … I wish the school will produce future leaders in science and technology.” These “seeds of wishes” were then enclosed in a laboratory bottle and “planted” in the school garden by the President, other school personnel and some students. Dr. Efren B. Mateo, school principal challenged every stakeholder to play their roles well – students, to study hard; teachers, to teach effectively and efficiently; support staff, to serve well; and administrators to provide well the needed resources – so that these “seeds of wishes” shall grow and become realities.
