Monday, February 2, 2009

The Olympic ideal of a “sound mind in a sound body” found its rightful place in the staging of the Malayan High School of Science’s intramurals, the “Kicolympics”. Coined from the words, “kinetic, “cognitive” and “Olympics” with the theme, “Academics and Sports in Harmony Towards Excellence”, the activity aims to develop academic excellence among students utilizing sports as a motivating factor.

The inter-section sports competition consisted of basketball, volleyball, table tennis, chess, and badminton, while the academics portion covered Math, Science, General Information and Current Events and English via a quiz and elocution contest, respectively.

Basketball icon and PBA Hall of famer, Mr. Alvin Patrimonio led the opening ceremony of the Malayan High School of Science (MHSS) “Kicolympics” at the school’s gymnasium. Mr. Patrimonio in his inspirational message underscored the importance of discipline, commitment and determination as the key factors to winning a game and eventually to success in life. He cited the latest game of the Purefoods team wherein they beat their opponents after three overtime periods.

Malayan High School of Science is on its first year of operation. It is located at Paz Guanzon (formerly Otis), Pandacan Manila. MHSS boasts of a strong science curriculum, state of the art facilities, and committed faculty.
