MHSS student shines anew in an international math contest in India

Thursday, November 27, 2014

MHSS student and seventh grader Audrey Gabrielle Tan received three medals in WIZMIC 2014 held at Lucknow, India, on October 16-22, 2014.

After her feat in Singapore August this year, Audrey Gabrielle Tan won another international math competition in India.

Together with 16 Filipinos, Tan joined the Wizards at Mathematics International Contest (WIZMIC) held in Lucknow, India, last October 16-22.

Tan managed to bag a silver medal in an individual contest, a bronze in a team contest, and another silver in a group contest.

During the awarding in India, Tan felt “happy to be able to compete and win medals a second time this year, and relieved the competition is finally over.”

Mathematics has always been the favorite subject of Tan. Math challenges her – and she loves challenges.

This feat would not have been possible without the help of her coach. They trained every Saturdays up until the night of the contest. Moreover, her Math classes in MHSS helped her through with the mock questionnaires she answered.

The young mathematician has some piece of advice to Malayans joining Math competitions in the future: “Have a period of practice to be able to learn, understand, and master the topics.”

Tan is a seventh grader at Malayan High School of Science and a consistent honor student.
