Romero Bags Gold in 85th NCAA Long Course Swimming Championships

Karl Gil M. Romero, a junior Meteor student of MHSS hauled four medals in the 85 th NCAA Long Course Swimming Championships held at Trace Aquatic Sports Center, Trace College, Los Banos, Laguna on August 22-24, 2009.

In the 50-m long course, butterfly, junior division, Romero shattered the NCAA record of 28.33 seconds held by Quilala of San Beda College. Romero’s time of 27.95 seconds earned him gold in this event. He finished the leg 0.27 second ahead of Yu of the University of Perpetual Help System, the MVP of last year’s NCAA swimming competition, who settled for silver medal.

Aside from gold, Romero brought home three other medals. These are: silver in 50-m long course, breaststroke; silver in 50-m long course, freestyle; and bronze in 100-m long course, freestyle.

Other members of the MHSS Swimming team are the Nicdao brothers, Gian Paolo (II-Krypton) and Jan David (I-Einstein) and Juilan Red Bautista (I-Darwin) with Mr. Alfredo M. Mascardo, Jr. as the coach.
