Wednesday, January 26, 2022

Malayan Science celebrates its 16th Founding Anniversary themed “Imagine. Create. Exceed.: 16niting the Malayan Spirit.”

Staying true to its commitment to becoming a global center of excellence in junior high school education, Malayan High School of Science continues to develop well-rounded and globally competitive individuals. It remains steadfast in delivering topnotch education, implementing innovative teaching and learning systems, and responding to the call of the times.

Encouraging its students to become the best versions of themselves, Malayan Science inculcates in them the Malayan spirit—to imagine possibilities, create opportunities, and exceed expectations. This has become the mantra within the Malayan Science community that has helped in keeping the school’s tradition of excellence alive.

As a way of living up to its mantra and tradition of excellence, Malayan Science celebrates its 16th Founding Anniversary with the theme “Imagine. Create. Exceed.: Igniting the Malayan Spirit.”

“The theme is rooted in the true Malayan spirit—imagining possibilities, creating opportunities, and exceeding expectations. This also serves as a reminder to every Malayan to continuously ignite within themselves our community’s core, whether they are inside or outside the premises of the school,” said Malayan Science principal Dr. Emmillie Joy B. Mejia.

Furthermore, the events and activities for the celebration will showcase student outputs that are uniquely Malayan—imaginative, creative, and exceeding.

Another year of achievements

The past year has been another testament to the quality education Malayan Science provides, as its students and alumni continue to shine in different competitions.

Exemplifying the school’s specialized training and offerings in STEM and Research, innovative outputs of three groups of MHSS students and alumni were featured and recognized in the 1st Manila Intellectual Property, Innovation, and Business Expo (MIPIBEx).

Malayans’ innovation of an alternative school attendance system received a silver medal, while the outputs of research on water-resistant hyacinth paper and an alternative locking system bagged bronze medals in the expo’s Product Innovation Creative Research for Learners and Teachers category.

“A Comparative Study of the Malayan High School of Science ID System and the Low-Frequency RFID-Arduino Based Attendance Monitoring System” received a silver medal in the 1st MIPIBEx Product Innovation Creative Research for Learners and Teachers category.

“The common ground among these research works is product innovation. All the research focused on producing new and innovative products using the latest technology,” Malayan Science Mathematics, Science, and Technology teacher Anna Marie Sheryll R. Dimaiwat explained.

Meanwhile, Malayan Science robotics ace Sire Benedict V. Garcia scored multiple wins in national competitions and represented the Philippines in international tournaments.

Garcia aced the Philippine National Minecraft Esports last June 2021 and the Robot Virtual Games in April and July 2021. He also participated in the FIRST LEGO League Virtual Open International in June 2021 and earned a spot in the 23rd International Robot Olympiad.

MHSS student Sire Benedict V. Garcia aced national robotics competitions and represented the country in international tournaments.

According to Dr. Mejia, the school’s quality education, particularly its robotics program, enables its students to perform well in competitions.

“Our programs as well as the platform and tools that we are utilizing are the most updated and can meet the requirements of international robotics competitions. We also promote students’ critical thinking through virtual robot programming and building during online classes,” she said.

Starting S.Y. 2022-2023, Malayan Science will offer its Home Education Program, an innovation aimed at improving students’ access to quality education.

Through its strong digital capabilities, Malayan Science has been effectively delivering fully online classes. Equipped with powerful and latest educational tools and experience in various learning deliveries, Malayan Science now expands its expertise as it introduces the Home Education Program.

To be offered starting School Year 2022-2023, the innovative homeschooling program gives students the freedom to learn at their own pace and in the safety and convenience of their own homes and schedules.

“Through the MHSS Home Education Program, we hope to improve each student's access to quality education and help them develop a renewed interest in learning,” said Dr. Mejia.

Following the successful integration of an advanced Coding program in the school curriculum, Malayan Science opens its doors to elementary and junior high school students through Algorithm of Welfare, a national coding competition.

Through the competition, Malayan Science will hold coding workshops for the participants to boost their skills in initiating transformative solutions to emerging problems through programming.

“Heading into another year, Malayan Science vows to continue molding students into competent and future-ready individuals as it delivers its renowned topnotch education and new offerings, inculcates the Malayan spirit among students, and keeps its winning tradition ablaze,” Dr. Mejia said.
