The Malayan High School of Science (MHSS), a new science high school rising in Pandacan, Manila, is now accepting student applicants in time for its school opening in June 2006. It is affiliated with a leading technology school, the Mapua Institute of Technology.
Dr. Reynaldo Vea, president of both Mapua Institute of Technology and the new high school, said that “the founding of the Malayan High School of Science is an attempt to contribute to our country’s efforts to take full advantage of a global, knowledge-based economy. It is a way of giving more Filipino families the opportunity to have their children undergo a high school education of international standards, which will hopefully open many doors for them in later years.”
Like its parents school, Mapua, the MHSS is envisioned to become an international center of excellence with the mission to help the country develop globally competitive human resources in the area of science and technology. Thus, the school’s program objective is to produce graduates who can gain admission to and successfully hurdle scientific and technological degree programs in the best colleges and universities in the country and abroad.
“The Malayan High School of Science will show the same dedication to quality education and the same wonder of imagination and innovation for which Mapua, the mother institution, is well known,” said Mr. Vea.
To attain the school’s objectives, MHSS has established a set of desired outcomes for its academic program. Aside from a strong foundation in the sciences, attention will also be given to communication skills and the humanities.
