MHSS gymnast shines in Milo Little Olympics

Friday, November 24, 2017

Malayan High School of Science (MHSS) student gymnast Akhira Bint Afghani P. Alonto won as the 2nd Overall Champion in the Milo Little Olympics 2017 held at the Club Gymanistica in Pasig City last September 23.

Aside from the award, Alonto took home one gold and two bronze medals for the Uneven Bars, Vault, and Beam, respectively.

According to MHSS principal Emmillie Joy B. Mejia, Alonto’s achievements are indication of MHSS’ competence not only in academics but in sports as well.

“It is something to be proud of. This signifies that MHSS is capable enough to hone its learners to be disciplined and committed to improving their skills to represent the school the best way they can,” Mejia said. She added that whenever there are upcoming competitions, MHSS helps students through various trainings and support, as these exposures will allow them to embody excellence in their fields of interest.

Alonto is not a newcomer in the competition scene. In June this year, she joined the Bangkok Falcons Gymnastics Championship 2017 in Thailan, and the International School Manila Gymnastics Meet last May.

To keep her body in tip-top shape, Alonto never misses a practice.

“I prepare myself by practicing every day. I also visualize my routines before the competition itself,” she said. Alonto was among the 400 participants of the NCR-South Luzon division of the competition.

The Milo Little Olympics is an inter-school junior sports competition held annually all over the Philippines. Among the sporting events included in the competition are badminton, basketball, swimming, table tennis, chess, and football.
